Amberley Alexis Barnett disappeared on Friday, March 1, at 18:00 after she was last seen in the house of her aunt. She was found dead on Saturday, March 2 in a wooded area about 200 yards from the house Christopher Wayne Madison, who lives next door to a relative of the child.

According to the DeKalb County Sheriff nick Walden, the autopsy showed that the girl was strangled.

On the weekend, Madison was taken into custody for a drug-related crime, but when the body Amberley was discovered, he was charged with murder. He can’t get out on bail.

«There was a murder a sweet, innocent little girl. We can’t release the suspect and jeopardize this investigation,» said Walden.

The victim’s mother Joni Barnett posted a message on Facebook after the disappearance of her daughter, saying that someone stole the girl from the house of her aunt.

«Her phone was thrown out, and he carries it with him everywhere. Nothing in her phone indicated that she ran away from home,» wrote the mother.

A resident of mount Vernon, Terry Clanton said WAAY31 that such crimes rarely happen in that area.

«It shocked the public. We never heard anything like it in the area,» said Clanton, described mount Vernon as a close-knit community.

This community is located about 25 miles North-East of the city of Gadsden (al).
